2006-9-7Opening: Present: A.Officer’s Reports 1. Vice President of Community Service (Amber Feikert) a. In remembrance of 9/11, this Sunday is the first annual Hays Freedom Walk. Registration begins at 3:30 on Sunday, September 10th at the National Guard Armory on Main Street. The walk and activities immediately follow from 4-6pm. Anyone who participates please let Amber know! b. We still have drop boxes around campus for Ink Cartridges – bring yours and encourage others to donate their used cartridges as well. c. Mark your calendar! Make a Difference Day is coming up on October 28th. There will be more information at next month’s meeting. 2. Webmaster (Jeremy Dorzweiler) a. CHECK OUT OUR WEBSITE! www.fhsu.edu/nscs. Jeremy has done an awesome job on our website. There is a plethora of information available including contact information of officers, information about chapter events, community service activities, meeting minutes, pictures, resources, and polls to make our chapter better for you! B. New Business 1. Homecoming a. Options for participation in the Homecoming festivities include: creating a banner and entering it in the banner competition, participating in the parade, and/or nominating king/queen candidates. It was decided that we would create a banner for the banner competition. A list of those who wanted to participate was formed. Remember to watch your e-mail for updates from Allison. Anyone else wishing to help, contact Allison and let her know. 2. Election of Officers a. Open positions were Vice President of Planning for College Success (PFCS) and Social Chair. 3. Planning for College Success (PFCS) a. This is a new program we are establishing this year. Our goal this year is to establish a partnership with a local school and establish our program. PFCS has three components: 1. Mentoring/Volunteering in schools 2. Holding assemblies educating students about college 3. A march to college day with our partner school. More information about this exciting program will be given later, or you can speak with one of the officers. C. Announcements 1. Point System a. We will be revamping to the point system to better reward our members for their participation in meetings, activities, community service events etc. 2. NSCS Discounts a. Be sure to take advantage of discounts that NSCS has to offer its members. GEICO is offering a $1000 scholarship and there is an opportunity to receive $100.00 off of KAPLAN prep course.
